XPression can import 3D models in the OBJ and 3DS formats, as well as an OBJ Sequence. The OBJ Sequence contains the object as well as animation properties of the object(s). Importing them is fairly straight forward, however, there are some common mistakes that are made when creating the OBJ Sequence. This video shows both the proper and OBJ Sequences when imported, so that the XPression user can identify where the issue is.

XPression Studio systems with the XPression Clips option also have the PBUS option as part of the clips software. While PBUS is normally used to handle triggering video servers from a video switcher, PBUS can also be used to trigger XPression Scenes. This video shows how to add an XPression Scene to the PBUS register and what happens when it gets triggered. Ross Video Dashboard is used, for illustration purposes, to trigger PBUS register. However, this could be any switcher or device that can trigger PBUS.

MOS workflows allow the newsroom user to create their own graphics using templates the art department may create. When a material is created using a video asset, the default setting for videos is looping. When a scene is used as a MOS template, the settings for the default material is inherited by the video element dropped into the template in the newsroom. If the default material, used as the placeholder, is set to PLAY ONCE, the video elements dropped into that template by the newsroom user will not loop. The best way to handle this is to use a placeholder element with the desired settings for a replaceable asset. It is also wise to use something like a station logo or show logo, in case the replaceable video asset is from an openMAM or Order Management System and the desired asset isn’t delivered in time for air.

XPression and Datalinq™ are already a very powerful combination of workflow tools. Implemented in XPression 6.5, Visual Logic provides even more power to the data handling capabilities of XPression. A Sort Selection function block has been added which enables XPression to automatically review and sort data and pass the re-ordered data from input fields to outputs using the Function Blocks and Object Blocks.

Another visit from Andrew Sampson, where he covers the basics of the XPression Tessera and Tessera SE workflows. In this video, Andrew is explaining how to work in the Region Mapper in Tessera to set up playout of a 3840x1080 video across two frame buffers in a single XPression Engine.
We know some of you want to follow along at home, so here is a link to a zip file of the XPression project Andrew used. Copy it onto your hard drive and launch the project file to follow along with him.

In this video, learn how to take supplied content for ribbon boards, in this case 15360x80; and use the region mapping tools to stripe it onto a 1920x1080 output. Once this is done, you can take the single frame buffer output and feed it to your display cabinets and use their internal scaling tools to map out the ribbons for a complete and seamless display.

Well, you just learned that using Region Mapper, it is possible to span content in a single frame buffer output across multiple displays. Well, let’s take that to the next step and create a single Take Item that will be used to “Take Over” all the monitors in the venue with a single Take ID.
