When users try to share XPression Video Codec files for review by users without XPression, the ability to play the files on a Windows 10 PC seems to befuddle some folks. Installing the XPression Video Codec is pretty easy, but some users prefer using VideoLAN’s VLC media player over the native tools in Windows. Ross Video has developed the VLC plugin, for the XPression Video Codec, so now VLC users with the XPression Video Codec installed can view XPression Video assets and Clips.

The impact of Covid-19 has been felt by everyone. Those fortunate enough to work, might be working from places they never have before. Since that means that monitor walls and tally lights on them might not be present, Ross Video has added support for TLS 3.1 and 4.0 into XPression Version 10, which means that Tally Light support has been added into the User Interface. Red for On-Air and Green for Preview are now supported on the Output Monitor panel on the UI.

Back in XPression Version 6.7, we added a Countdown column into the XPression Sequencer. Well, now you can display that countdown value in Dashboard Version 9.0 as well. This is helpful for users who depend on custom Dashboard panels to show them previews of their XPression channels during a very busy show. Keep your focus in one place and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing, count yourself down to the end of the graphics or clips.

Dashboard is the free utility program from Ross Video that enables operators to have a common user experience, regardless of the device(s) that it is interfaced to. Two years ago, we extended the XPression API to include Dashboard as an option which displayed the XPression Sequencer user interface in Dashboard. This enabled casual users to play back XPression content from a less intimidating user interface. Well, now the Dashboard API isn’t an option… it is a feature on XPression version 10 and higher.

For instances where the operator needs to make a change to the font properties, XPression now makes a clone of the original font, and allows the operator to apply the clone to the text objects on the scene or across the project.

Designers often would like to get a clear view of what they are designing in their viewport. This can be disrupted by simple tools like safe-title markers and bounding boxes around objects in the scene. Now, XPression users can show/hide them with a keystroke.

In a busy production environment, every bit of help is appreciated. Designers can now color-code input fields to show operators which fields need special attention or to call attention to them. Combine this with the ability to show or hide template data fields for impact.
