When using videos as replaceable materials in XPression, it is always tough. So many times, artists create video which start with a black screen and animate to display franchise content or other information. Ironically, they all seem to use the same points in time for each animation. So now, rather than using FRAME 0 for the preview seen in the MOS newsroom or the Sequencer in XPression, artists can define which frame is used as the preview. Now the guess work of is this the right asset, goes away.

Not just a playout controller, the new XPression Remote Sequencer is a powerful content creation tool, too! Manage the content in the rundowns for the studio. Modify Take Items., create new Take IDs, move them around to other channels, but still retain the power and ease of driving a linear rundown with one or two keys. When you need to see graphics in a channel per column layout, set it up and use it. Remember, with great power, comes great responsibility.

We work with a lot of E-Sports productions, and we see a lot of things behind the scenes. One of our favorites is the Elgato Stream Deck. This cool little device is a USB connected shotbox, which can be programmed with either simple keyboard macros or leveraged with their SDK to create plugins that speak directly to other applications over the network. We decided to try this little gizmo with the new XPression Remote Sequencer and found out that adding some additional RossTalk commands allow the user to send commands to specific channels in the new Remote Sequencer, even if Remote Sequencer isn’t in-focus on the PC. As long as the Remote Sequencer is on the network and the Stream Deck has been programmed, it will just work. How cool is that?

When Ross Video released the 64-bit edition of XPression, users found one missing function, the ability to use the Export as Video to video file formats supported with Apple QuickTime. While this is due to the lack of a QuickTime installer for the 64-bit Windows applications, Ross Video is providing a way around it. Customers who download an installation of FFMPEG on their own (Ross Video is not licensed to distribute it), XPression 9.5 now restores the ability to Export as Video for .MOV or other QuickTime Video file formats.

While Sequencer Groups are a powerful way to organize Take Items in the XPression Sequencer, many operators like to use colors to highlight Take Items as a way to organize or prioritize key items. Well, we saw users doing that, and found out if we gave them more colors, they’ll use them. We added almost a dozen new colors to the Sequencer for you to choose the ones that work best for you.

While XPression is the fastest growing real-time motion graphics engine in the market today, audio does also play a part of the production process. We had more than a few requests to be able to upload more than one audio file at a time to the Audio Files tool in XPression. So now, you can upload more than one at a time.

For those of us who use XPression BlueBox and have content in mixed video formats coming at us, Ross Video has added a preference item for defining the Default Video Format. This allows the administrator of the system to set a preference and define what video format the engine will output, rather than just allowing the Project setting to define it.
