Basics 150 - The New Countdown column in XPression Sequencer

How many times as the director asked you how much longer, before the graphic is complete and they should move on to the next visual? “how much longer?”, it’s like driving a car full of kids on a vacation.  Well, rather than guessing, there is now a column available in the XPression Sequence layout which can show you both in countdown time, as well as a progress bar. Basics 152 - Thumbnails in XPression Sequencer

Visual confirmation is key to being confident. Want to really know what graphic is in the next Take ID? Well, now you can see a thumbnail of that graphic in the Take ID event in the Sequencer. It is the same image that appears in the Preview window, but now there is one for each Take ID in the sequence. All you need to do is show that column in the XPression Sequencer, if you know where to find it. What to know where to find it? Well, watch this video and I will show you.

Basics 153 - The XPression License Tool and Updating Dongles

Starting with XPression version 7.2 or higher, XPression USB License dongles can be reprogrammed in the field. This allows customers to purchase new features and have their XPression USB dongles remotely re-programmed in the field. This is a very straightforward process, and allows for direct updates to the license, based on the purchased features and options, as well as the entitlement of software, based on the expiration of the software maintenance contract for that license.

Basics 154 - XPression Dashboard API Option

XPression and Dashboard have always interacted well, using the free Dashboard tools leveraging RossTalk, XML Data integration to DataLinq™, and even the XPression Preview Widget for Dashboard. Well, we took it another step further and cooler. XPression now offers an optional Dashboard API control which allows Dashboard to see the XPression Sequencer and control playout of the sequence as well as adding new Take IDs to the Sequencer. This is a really cool option for XPression which some of you have been waiting for all of your life. Take a look.

Basics 156 - ­­Importing Photoshop Files as Layers in XPression

The design process doesn’t always start in XPression. Sometimes, cocktail napkins are the source of amazing design ideas, other times… Adobe Photoshop. At Ross Video, we know that artists often do their design and layout in Adobe Photoshop, so rather than fight it we embrace it. Now, you can import layered PSD files into XPression, retaining folder structure and grouping, alpha masks and even many blending modes. Basics 158 - Duplicating Scene Directors in XPression

Transition Logic revolutionized how graphics were designed to play back-to-back on XPression. Now, XPression artists and animators can create a base Scene Director, and the duplicate it, with all the objects and animation controllers inside of them. No more copy-and-paste and wondering if you got all the elements. Now, they are all duplicated with the Scene Director. Right-click>Duplicate.

Basics 160 - Adding RossTalk Commands to XPression Scene Directors and Clips Timelines

Everyone always pushes XPression around, so we decided it was time to push back. RossTalk commands, we mean. Now it is possible to add RossTalk commands as a track in a Scene Director so XPression Take IDs can trigger other devices. Trigger Carbonite to start the wipe and change sources at the specific frame required. Or even more interesting, XPression Clips can now hold RossTalk commands on a track in the Clip properties. Imagine triggering another XPression from an XPression engine with clips, that is being used to roll bumper animations. How cool is that?

Did you ever wonder what the scene in preview looks like when it animates on the screen? Well, the only way to find out in the middle of a show used to be playing it to a frame buffer when nobody was looking.  Well, those days are over, since everyone is watching XPression. Font Management is a challenge in every graphics workflow, so Ross Video decided to create a Font Manager for XPression. Now it is possible to rename, renumber, sort, organize and modify the fonts in your XPression projects from a single panel.
