Using Video files as materials is very easy in XPression, and there are a few ways to control them. When the goal is to not have the video begin to play as soon as the Take ID is taken online, be sure to add the video material to the Scene Director and place it at the frame you wish the video to begin playing at.

Sporting event XPression operators often utilize a tool referred to as Data Pages (remember what Data Pages are? Watch Datalinq™ 105 video to review) as a way to repurpose an often-used text string. In the past, the ability to preview them using Desktop Preview Server, was not showing the composite of the base Take ID and the Data Page combined on one output. This left the producers and directors wondering what the final output composite would be. Well, we all want to trust our XPression operators to present the right content, but the level of trust in some people might be somewhat… lower than deserved. To resolve that, the Desktop Preview Server now shows the composition of the base Take ID and the Data Page together, now.

For operators who are adding assets from the local file system to their Take IDs before taking them to output, XPression now has a control to change the size of the thumbnails of the image assets. This new functionality provides better visual confirmation of content to be selected and added to an XPression Take ID in the Sequence view.

For operators who are working from a Sequence list and populating the Take IDs with changes in Text or Assets, it is now possible to send the cursor back and forth from the Take Item Inspector to the Sequence List the item was in, using the same F4/Sequence Key or button that opens the Sequence view. This allows the operator to travel up and down the list and then move the cursor to modify content in the Take Item Inspector with just one keystroke. Pressing the same key will return the cursor back to the Sequence list, where it came from.

Moving between groups in the Sequence View is often easier to do when using Sequence Groups. To make that navigation even easier, it is now possible to utilize the Arrow Keys on the keyboard to expand or collapse them. Now, users can manage their Sequence Groups without using their mouse and stay on their keyboard.

When problems come up, the best thing to do is gather all the available information before attempting to solve the problem. Ross Video feels the same way, and the XPression team is here to help. We have created a new tool for collecting XPression logs from each computer that is running any XPression software on it. Using this tool, it is possible to automatically gather all the logs and upload them directly to our servers for our technical support team to review them with you. This is helpful for finding pesky mistakes in a script you may have created or troubleshooting system problems. Either way, this is a big help!

How many times have you wanted to put a scene into an output layer and make sure NOTHING replaced it? Think of things like show logos (bugs), hashtags or clocks. Well, now you can do just that. Put a TakeID on an output layer and lock it. Nothing will take it offline, transition it offline, or replace it until you go in and turn off the layer lock. Check it out, it might save the show some day.
