Two questions we get asked (…in this order…) a lot are:1. Can we use animated icons in XPression Maps2. How do I add my own icons to XPression Maps
You would think the questions would be in the opposite order, but… no. We get asked if it is possible, then how. Well, this video will not only show you how to do those, but we even spent a little bit of time to show how to do a simple concentric rings animation in Adobe After Effects.

Ross Video is introducing the new XPression Maps HTML5 client interface for the MOS enabled newsroom user. Customers may scale the UI to fit their needs, as well as benefit for a zero-installer tool. This means that NRCS users who can connect to the newsroom system from their computers at home do not need to install any new versions of the XPression Maps plugin anymore, and could possibly work on either Windows or Mac, if their newsroom system are cross platform capable.

In the XPression Maps 3.2 HTML5 workflow, users are required to save their map flights before they can be dragged into an XPression Template. XPression Maps allows for a wide variety of Text Tools in the HTML5 client, and that can be confusing. To reduce the number of decisions which a newsroom user has to make during crunch time, it is now possible for the user to define a default Text Tool for adding labels in their maps. It is also easier to change to another Text Tool to highlight something important with a different text style that has been provided by the graphics team.

There are a lot of different ways to show a map on-screen in a television newscast. While the automated process of XPression Maps means that all the maps are rendered at the same size, it is possible that some of the XPression Templates used show them in a different scale or position on the screen. Artists can now create a variety of Safe Title Markers for the HTML5 client to use and allow the newsroom user to see what the area of interest is for that map.

With the dominant force of tablets, websites and smart phones; news production is done 24/7/365.To accommodate that, XPression Maps has allowed users to download still map images from the XPression Maps client. The function has been added to the XPression Maps HTML5 Client, and we will be adding an option to download the current map as an MP4 file. In the pre-release (beta) builds, we are offering this as a free trial and hoping for feedback on the functionality. Please also check your Microsoft BING!
