XPression Maps is a powerful tool for creating detailed maps for your video productions. XPression Maps Design Workstation allows designers to create world, regional, or street-level maps using aerial imagery accessed in real-time from Microsoft® Bing™ Maps or NASA’s Blue Marble. The final output can be still images or video animations in a variety of formats. XPression Maps does not have any monthly fees associated with map contents or map creation. The server is located inside the station, and not in a data center in the cloud.
Maps may also be designed as templates and saved for use in a MOS enabled newsroom. The templated maps provide tools for journalists to create their own maps using the defined styles of the station, in a matter of seconds. This empowers journalists to create their own maps around the clock, even if the artists are not available.

Creating an animated map in XPression Maps is as easy as selecting a starting and ending location or position and then storing them as keyframes on the timeline. It is possible to keyframe items such as the zoom level, region and even the type of map used. Select from Microsoft® Bing™ Maps or NASA’s Blue Marble maps. Add details such as street names, titles, icons, etc.

Creating a Map template for use in the self-service XPression MOS Plug-in workflow is really easy. Select a map style and set a starting Flight Point and then upload it to the template database. It is now available to the newsroom use. The designer can define the map style, starting point, potential icons that can be added by the newsroom user and the animation duration. All the journalist needs to do is define the final destination.

Using simple tricks, XPression designers can create templates with options to reduce the number of templates required to produce a newscast. Rather than build variations of the same template for each position on the screen, or animated or static templates. By entering in an L for Left-Side or R for Right-side, two OTS templates can become one. Make it easier for your busy newsroom staff to select the right templates and reduce the number of templates they need to browse through.
