XPression Clips content can be set to pause on the last frame in the clip. However, depending on how that clip was recorded, it might show some interlacing problems. Well, now XPression Clips has a setting, per server channel, for how pauses are executed. Things to consider are the video format (Progressive vs. Interlaced), if it is interlaced, Upper or Lower Field dominance (ask your engineering team which one you are using). Well, XPression Clips can accommodate these items for you. Settings for pauses in XPression Clips now allow for Progressive or Interlaced (upper or lower) or an Auto detect setting. Watch and learn. Then try it on your copy of the new XPression software.

XPression Clips was designed to use a separate server to transcode and import assets into the Clip Store database. While the XPression INcoder provides a Watch Folder interface and can be purchased as a turnkey solution or as software only, smaller facilities who only do playout and very little ingest of new content couldn’t justify the expense. Also, XPression Clips users in remote productions may not have access to the INcoder server. To help out, XPression Clips now allows for a batch import of XPression Clips within the XPression Record Client. This isn’t as good as using the INcoder, but it still is pretty cool and will solve some workflow issues.

While the XPression INcoder allows for setting various properties on any clip processed, sometimes Clips already in the database need to have settings like HOLD LAST FRAME or LOOP turned on. Well, now in XPression 9.5, it is possible to select multiple clips and adjust some of the setting to them all at once. Take a look!

In a busy newsroom, sometimes the assets required to create a newscast are not directly available. With XPression Clips, it is now possible for a newsroom user to create a placeholder item in the XPression Clips database and add it to the MOS rundown. If properly fulfilled by the graphics department, the placeholder item will become an actual clip asset and fill in the placeholder once it is delivered. Check this out and imagine how it can streamline your Video Clip workflow with XPression Clips.

An Event Track is a new feature of XPression Clips, which allows for RossTalk events and other items to be added to an XPression Clips asset. Imagine an XPression Clip being able to trigger the switcher to properly wipe from A-bus to B-Bus at exactly the right frame, every time. Now, imagine that you create an INcoder Watch Folder for Switcher Wipe Clips which can automatically add that event trigger into any clip ingested using that Watch Folder.
Well, stop imagining, and start doing… That feature is included in XPression INcoder version 9.5 and higher.

Seasoned XPression graphics users find the tracks in the Scene Director a very powerful tool. In addition to holding XPression Animation Controllers, Events like RossTalk commands can also be added to a track. Event Tracks have now been added to XPression Clips, which allow users to add items like RossTalk events to their clips content. This allows a clip to be able to trigger switcher events, router events, even triggering effects and Take Items on any XPression units on the same production control room. This is strong stuff!

The Grand Pappy of XPression U stops in to show us all how to use the latest functions of the XPression INcoder. Sports and Live Events Customers often have to fill ribbon boards that are thousands of pixels wide and only a couple of dozen high. XPression Tessera can be used to fill those displays, but the massive files need to be trimmed down to fit onto a broadcast resolution output. Yup. INcoder does that.
Also, some extremely large screens inside sporting arenas of news studios need to be filled video elements that are pixel accurate, but the video clips won’t play on any single frame buffer. Again, INcoder handles those videos and chops them up into manageable files to be played in Tessera. Take a look at how it’s done from the master, himself.

It is possible to set up a single scene in XPression and use key values in one field to select values in other fields. Known as Datalinq™ Keys, when used properly allow items like a player’s jersey number, a last name, or a political party abbreviation, to drive the data selection for other fields in the scene. A relation to the XPression Sequencer Take ID can set up using a %relid%, which updates the value of a Take ID to populate fields in the XPression scene. This makes extremely short work out of binding data to scenes and adding an entire list of people or players to an XPression Sequence in seconds.
