XPression INcoder can now transcode .MXF files with AVC Intra content in them. The .MXF file extension has been added to the INcoder file formats, so customers with an .MXF codec installed on their INcoder engine can now transcode them for use in XPression Clips.

The XPression INcoder workflow will now retain the source time-code of files using Quick-Time™ of QuickTime Codecs (which are provided by the customer) when transcoding the file. A new feature inside of XPression Clips also allows for use of the original source time-code when editing the clip and displaying the original source time-code in the user interface and in the vertical interval time-code of the video output.

The XPression INcoder workflow now allows for an auto-assignment of a Recall ID during the ingest and transcode process. The INcoder will assign the next available Recall ID, based on the either a user-defined value or by synchronizing with the Clip Store database to serialize, or use the next available Recall ID number available. This is user-definable for each XPression Clips project, so that all clips in the Clip Store database can have a Recall ID, now.

Facilities with multiple shows or productions each day often standardize workflows and want to use the same tools and processes on each show, so that operators can work on more than one show. XPression Clips now allows users to assign the same Recall ID in two or more different XPression Clips Projects. This means that Recall ID 1000 can be the “show open” in each XPression Clips Project. This can reduce the confusion of trying to find a way to use number ranges to segregate clips content, also. There are a couple of tricks here, so watch and learn.

XPression Clips assets can have a Recall ID for use in a random access workflow or for basic organization, and now when the asset is dragged into an XPression Sequence playlist, the Recall ID will be assigned as the Take ID, if the number isn’t already used in the sequence. The allows for operators creating playlists in the Sequence to keep track of which assets are in the list, by Recall ID, by looking in the Take ID column.

XPression Clips users looking for random access recalls of XPression Clips content can use the Fast Recall feature of XPression along with the Filter feature of XPression Clips. Random access of Clips content can now be set to use items from one Project as well as direct access to content using the Recall ID, Name info or both. Shortcut keys, to reduce the dependency on mouse use are also available. This is a quick lesson, which will have a lot or value for live production operators of XPression Clips.

Did you know you can edit XPression Clips content on the User Interface and not use the program output channels in the control room (or do you say gallery?) outputs? We even can support 5.1 and 7.1 audio monitoring, for situations where there are multi-channel audio workflows to utilize when trimming heads or tails from a clip. This is especially useful, when there is multi-channel audio and the output might be based on a sound cue on a channel other than the traditional channels 1 or 2. Watch this tutorial, even if is only in stereo, to find out how to monitor 5.1 or 7.1 audio.

XPression Clips has had 3-point and 4-point looping for a while, however, the Edit User Interface for XPression Clips has be modified with buttons to make it clearer. Watch this video to get a good idea on how to mark loop in and out points as well as set how many times the loop repeats before continuing to the end. The Mark In and Mark Out buttons and Go To Start and Go To End really simplify the work of trimming clips and setting up loops.

The XPression Clips Server Channel panel now as a Preview Window. Why? Well, this allows users to stage a Clips asset for the channel, and if the Auto Take function is enabled, when the asset on the server channel output completes, the item in the Preview Window will automatically transition to the server channel output, using the default transition for that channel. When browsing the Clip Store, users who double-click on an item will see it show up in the Preview Channel, rather than taking it straight to the Server Channel or Frame Buffer. Great way to confirm an item, before pushing out to the studio!
